Both the Guardian and Fortress anchors are made from the same high-strength, corrosion-resistant aluminium-magnesium alloy, making them strong and lightweight with excellent durability.

If they’re made from the same material and offer similar performance, what are the differences, and why would someone choose one over the other?

The main differences come down to four areas. The Guardian lacks the anodized finish found on the Fortress, meaning it doesn’t benefit from the added protection. The shank on the Guardian is a simple straight design, whereas the Fortress features a tapered shank. The Guardian is fixed at a 32-degree fluke angle, while the Fortress allows adjustment between 32 and 45 degrees—the latter offering better holding power in certain substrates. Lastly, the Guardian comes with a 1-year parts replacement warranty, compared to the Fortress’s lifetime parts replacement guarantee.

In terms of actual anchoring performance, the Guardian holds similarly to the Fortress in most conditions. The main difference is the inability to switch to a 45-degree fluke angle, which slightly reduces its effectiveness in certain seabeds. However, for most general use, especially in sand or firm ground, the holding power remains very close.

Both anchors are excellent options, offering strong holding power and corrosion resistance. The Guardian is ideal for those looking for a more affordable option without sacrificing quality, while the Fortress is suited for users who want maximum performance, more features, and longer warranty coverage.
